Connect with Your Authentic Self

Welcome to "Exploring Identity: Group Art Therapy for Identity Work with Teens," a 12-week group designed for adolescents navigating identity, emotions, and self-expression. Led by Kristina MacCaughan, ATR-P, ACMHC, this group provides a safe and supportive space for teens to explore who they are, express themselves creatively, and build confidence in a welcoming environment.

No prior art experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and willingness to explore.

Group Art Therapy

group art therapy

Group art therapy offers unique benefits that extend beyond individual sessions. By combining creative expression with the shared experience of a group setting, participants can discover new insights, build supportive connections, and develop tools for personal growth. Here’s what makes group art therapy so impactful:

Uncover strengths and celebrate uniqueness

Build Confidence and Self-Expression

One of the greatest strengths of group art therapy is the sense of connection it fosters. Sharing space and creativity with others who may have similar struggles helps participants feel less alone. Group members can offer validation, empathy, and encouragement, building a sense of belonging and community.

Creating art in a shared space provides opportunities to connect with others in meaningful ways. Participants often find inspiration in each other's work and experiences, leading to stronger relationships and mutual support throughout the therapeutic process.

Foster Connection and Community

Adolescents often struggle with feeling isolated during times of change. This group offers a supportive peer environment where individuals can share experiences, find validation, and build lasting connections.

Find belonging and meaningful connections

Navigate Emotions with Creativity and Clarity

Encourage Emotional Awareness and Growth

Participating in group art therapy helps strengthen social skills through practice in communication, collaboration, and active listening. Whether you’re learning to express yourself more openly or practicing empathy by listening to others, these interactions provide valuable opportunities to grow.

Group settings offer a unique chance to navigate social challenges in a safe and supportive environment. These skills often extend beyond the group, improving relationships and interactions in daily life.

Promote Exploration of Identity

Adolescents will create art pieces that explore their identity, values, and personal growth. This group encourages self-discovery and helps participants develop a stronger sense of self.

Exploration Identity and Grow with Confidence

Individual Expression Within a Shared Space

While each person creates their art piece individually, the group setting amplifies the experience. Creating in a shared space fosters a sense of collective learning and growth. Group members can:

  • Support each other when facing challenges.

  • Encourage one another to try new techniques or approaches.

  • Celebrate each other's progress and creative insights.

The balance between individual work and group support allows participants to benefit from both introspective reflection and social connection.
