Do You Struggle To Feel Safe And Present In Your Life?

Have you been suffering from intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and disturbed sleep?

Are you characterized by people-pleasing behaviors and feelings of self-doubt?

Do you ever wonder if your present struggles are connected to past trauma?

Maybe you’ve been feeling detached, overwhelmed, and unable to focus at work or engage with your relationships. Perhaps you suffer from constant fatigue and brain fog—you feel too exhausted to maintain all your relationships and responsibilities. As a result, you may feel disconnected from your own life, as if you’re watching it unfold rather than actually living it. Sometimes you might even dissociate, temporarily “shutting down” in order to detach from painful emotions. For the first time, maybe you’re thinking that it’s time to see a trauma specialist.

You May Have Experienced Trauma Without Even Knowing It

On one hand, maybe you’re the survivor of sexual assault, a bad car accident, or another life-altering event that left you with profound emotional scars and PTSD symptoms. On the other, perhaps there have been painful experiences that you haven’t even recognized as trauma. You might have a hard time trusting others and feeling safe in relationships without knowing that it’s connected to unhealthy relationships in the past. Maybe you try very hard to please others because you’re afraid of being hurt all over again.

Whether your traumatic experience happened yesterday or took place in early childhood, we believe that our empowering approach to trauma therapy can provide both short-term relief and long-term healing. At Radiant Mind Wellness, our therapists specialize in helping trauma survivors of all ages put the pain of the past behind them and live more confident and connected lives.

Most Of Us Have Experienced Trauma

A traumatic experience doesn’t have to be an earth-shattering event. Sometimes, trauma can simply arise because we didn’t experience the love, acceptance, or validation that we needed when we were young. It can often materialize slowly over long stretches of time, such as during a toxic relationship or a period of profound loss or illness.

In the simplest of terms, trauma is what happens when our nervous system gets “stuck.” We experience something distressing and our nervous system is left in a state of vulnerability. We feel as if the experience is still happening, sometimes years after the fact.

It’s important to know that this trauma response is not an inherently bad thing. It can help us stay safe and alert to danger, and it can also help us disconnect or “dissociate” momentarily during stressful situations. Yet when this trauma response becomes too powerful for its own good, causing intrusive thoughts and disturbing our sleep, that’s when it’s worth seeking help.

Even When Our Minds Forget What Happened, Our Bodies Remember

Many people try to suppress painful experiences or work through them intellectually. A lot of therapy is very cognitively oriented, teaching people to challenge unrealistic thoughts and beliefs and think more rationally about their lives.

Yet when it comes to trauma, this approach usually ends up failing to provide long-lasting relief. That’s because trauma is stored in the body. Even if you’ve cognitively processed what happened, the effects of trauma can still linger as physical distress, causing stomach aches, excessive fatigue, and various forms of chronic pain.

To truly heal from trauma, then, what’s required is a treatment that takes the whole person into account, allowing survivors to experience relief in their minds, bodies, and every area of their lives.

Therapy Can Empower You To Build Resilience And Heal Unresolved Trauma

Many of the trauma survivors we see come to therapy afraid to burden others with their distress. They’re so used to living in people-pleasing mode that they’ve been hiding their emotional pain for as long as they can remember. At Radiant Mind Wellness, we offer a space where children, teens, and adults can freely share their sorrows without any worry about being “too much” or “too emotional.” We help them establish baseline safety so that they can feel grounded and supported as they work through trauma.

Our practice takes a “bottom-up” approach to the treatment process, which means we emphasize supporting, respecting, and working with the body as well as helping clients process the cognitive elements of trauma.

All of our counselors are Creative Arts Therapists, since we believe that creative expression enables clients to access memories and emotions that lie beyond the reach of traditional talk therapy. We also incorporate a wide range of other body-centered therapeutic approaches, empowering clients to experience deep and long-lasting healing from the pain of the past.

What To Expect In Trauma Counseling Sessions

At Radiant Mind Wellness, we have therapists who specialize in working with kids and adolescents in addition to specialists who primarily work with adults. So whether you’re seeking support for yourself or your child, we are confident that we can match you with someone who suits your needs.

In trauma therapy, we always begin by listening to your goals, establishing a trusting and supportive relationship, and working from a trauma-informed lens. Using a wide array of evidence-based methods and somatic techniques, we’ll empower you with skills and resources for managing triggers, building resilience, and reconnecting with your strengths. Some of the approaches we draw from are listed below:

Creative Arts Therapies—Many people think of art therapy as an approach for kids, but it’s equally effective for adults who are looking to get introspective and do some serious trauma healing. Through the use of music, writing, painting, and other artistic mediums, you can find creative ways to process your emotions and express challenges that are difficult to verbalize.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—This approach can help you reprocess painful memories and lower their emotional charge, allowing you to remember what happened without feeling distressed or overwhelmed.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)—Many clients lack the confidence to heal when they’ve been living with trauma all their lives. ACT can help you connect with your personal values so that you can regain confidence in yourself and your ability to heal.

The integrative, expressive approaches we offer engage cognition, emotion, and somatic awareness, allowing for healing of the whole person. We’ll help you release trauma stored in your body, reclaim control over your stress responses, and reinforce self-empowerment beyond therapy.

You May Have Some Questions About Trauma Therapy

  • Our trauma-informed approach prioritizes safety and emotional regulation, ensuring that you feel grounded and supported as we work together. Many clients find that processing trauma in a safe space actually reduces the weight of their memories over time, allowing them to regain a sense of control and peace. Throughout the healing process, we will equip you with skills and resources so that you never feel overwhelmed as you work through trauma.

  • As a practice, we always start providing resources within the first session, setting clients up for a swift recovery from trauma. And while true healing takes time, many clients notice positive shifts early on. Each small step brings you closer to feeling more in control, connected, and at peace—which is the end-goal of all trauma therapy.

  • We understand that the cost of therapy can be a concern, but it’s worth considering how much of your life is already being spent trying to manage your trauma. Therapy is an investment in your mental health that can benefit you for the rest of your life, creating the safety and stability needed to build healthier relationships, increase your sense of trust, and flourish at whatever you do.
