Helping Children Recognize and Express Emotions Through Art
Where Do Feelings Live? is a gentle, engaging art therapy group designed to help young children (ages 4–6) and their caregivers explore the connection between emotions and sensations in the body.
Through child-friendly body mapping, movement, and expressive art activities, children learn to notice where they feel emotions—like butterflies in the tummy, warmth in the chest, or tightness in the jaw—and how to express those feelings through color, shape, and creative play.
Each child attends with one trusted adult (a parent, guardian, or caregiver). No art experience is required—just a willingness to explore and connect.
What to Expect Each Session
Guided body-based art activities using crayons, markers, and playful movement
Simple language to support emotional awareness and vocabulary
Brief mindfulness moments to help children tune into their bodies
Parent/caregiver participation for co-regulation and bonding
Optional time for gentle reflection or sharing (always child-led)
This group is led by a credentialed clinical art therapist and is rooted in trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive practice.
Why Caregiver Participation Matters
Children learn to regulate their emotions in relationship with trusted adults. By attending together, caregivers and children co-create shared language and tools that can carry into the home.
This group is especially supportive for families navigating:
Big feelings or frequent emotional overwhelm
Transitions like starting school or moving
Sensory sensitivity, anxiety, or attachment concerns
A desire to strengthen emotional connection through creative play
