Who Is This For?
This group is ideal for Teens (14–18) navigating chronic pain or chronic illness. This group is a good fit if your teen:
Feels isolated or misunderstood because of health challenges
Wants healthy ways to cope with frustration, worry, or grief
Enjoys creative expression—or is curious to try it
Would benefit from a gentle, supportive peer community
If you’re unsure whether the group is the right fit, we welcome a conversation to explore more.
Why Art Therapy?
Art therapy supports teens in expressing complex emotions that may be difficult to put into words. Through creative processes like stitching, wrapping, and constructing a symbolic figure, participants can engage with themes of identity, resilience, and belonging in a non-verbal, embodied way. Group discussion and reflection will support social connection and emotional validation while respecting each teen's level of comfort in sharing.
What to Expect
Each week combines art-making, reflection, and peer support in a calm, accepting environment. Participants will:
• Explore the emotional impact of chronic pain and illness through creative expression
• Learn body-based and mindfulness skills for managing stress and fatigue
• Connect with peers who share similar lived experiences
• Discover personal strengths and new ways of coping
No prior art experience is needed. All materials are provided.
Schedule
Session 1: Nov 13, Nov 20, Nov 25 (Tuesday before Thanksgiving)
Session 2: Dec 4, Dec 11, Dec 18
Session 3: Jan 8, Jan 15, Jan 22
Parent/Guardian Involvement
Because this is a clinical therapy group for minors, a brief consultation call with a parent or guardian is required prior to final registration. This ensures informed consent for treatment and helps clarify therapeutic structure, confidentiality, and goals.
Teens may attend sessions independently, but participation must be supported by a caregiver. The consult call also allows space for caregivers to ask questions and ensure that the group is a good fit for their teen.
